There’s no shame in wearing your emotions on your sleeve, but that doesn’t mean you want the lines and wrinkles that form when you smile, frown, or raise your eyebrows to age your appearance! Dysport® helps our Asheville medspa patients keep their expressions while keeping the wrinkles at arm’s length.
What is Dysport and how does it treat wrinkles?
Dysport is an FDA-approved injectable (like Botox!) that uses abobotulinumtoxinA to smooth dynamic facial lines, such as frown lines between the eyebrows and horizontal forehead lines. This neuromodulator works by temporarily blocking nerve signals to targeted muscles, effectively softening the contractions that lead to wrinkles. Reducing the intensity of the muscle contractions when you express yourself reduces, and often eliminates, lines and wrinkles for a smoother, more youthful complexion that looks natural.
What to expect during your Dysport treatment
Before getting Dysport, your injector will discuss your medical history and aesthetic goals to ensure Dysport is the right wrinkle treatment for you. Once we determine Dysport is the best option to smooth your skin, your injector will have you make several different expressions like smiling, frowning, squinting, and raising your eyebrows. These movements help your injector assess your unique muscle activity, and they will mark where each injection should go to achieve balanced results.
Dysport injections take just 10-15 minutes, and then you’ll be able to resume the rest of your day! You may have some mild bruising or tenderness, but these effects quickly fade. You’ll notice the effects of Dysport within 2-3 days.

Dysport results
Full results are visible by day 14 post-injection and typically last up to 3-4 months before the effects of Dysport start to diminish.
At Mountain Radiance, we prioritize natural-looking Dysport results and carefully place the ideal amount of product to reduce lines and wrinkles to your liking. If you want touch-up injections to refine your results—just ask!
Some patients prefer micro-doses of Dysport to only soften their expression lines, while others prefer full treatments that have the maximum wrinkle-stopping power without freezing their face. There are no one-size-fits-all injection practices here! Our team of experienced injectors, Dr. Mark Chandler, physician assistant Christina, and nurse injector Sarah specialize in completely personalized Dysport treatments.

Botox vs. Dysport – Which one is right for me?
We love the consistent and predictable results of Dysport and Botox and their long safety records, so we offer both neuromodulators at our Asheville medical spa. Their subtle differences may make one a better fit depending on your aesthetic goals, facial anatomy, and personal preferences, so which injectable should you pick?
Choose Dysport if you:
- Want faster onset of results
- Have larger treatment areas (like the forehead)
- Prefer a slightly lower price point
Dysport has a smaller molecule than Botox and can spread more easily over a larger area, making it particularly effective at treating forehead lines or broader treatment zones with fewer injections. Dysport is dosed differently than Botox so the dosage is larger per injection site—meaning you will require more units of Dysport to achieve similar results to Botox. It’s like saying 1 inch or 2.54 centimeters—same distance, different units.
Choose Botox if you:
- Need precise treatment for smaller areas
- Have been using Botox and love your results
- Want a more targeted approach with minimal spread
Botox, on the other hand, stays more localized, making it a great option for precise treatments like a gummy smile or lip flips.
The good news? Our injectors can use either neuromodulator to achieve your desired results—so the pressure is off!
Frequently Asked Questions About Asheville Dysport Treatments
What’s the difference between Dysport, Botox, Daxxify, Xeomin, and Jeuveau?
All these neuromodulators reduce wrinkles, but they differ in onset, duration, and formulation:
Dysport
Dysport results can start to be seen in 2-3 days and last approximately 3-4 months. The main ingredients in Dysport are Botulinum toxin type A and a haemagglutinin complex (proteins that help the product absorb).
Botox
Botox results typically start to appear within 3-5 days and last about 3-4 months. Botox’s main ingredients are Botulinum toxin type A, albumin (plasma), and sodium chloride (salt).
Daxxify
Daxxify begins working within 3-4 days and may last up to 6 months for some patients. It’s made of Botulinum toxin type A, peptide excipient, and sodium succinate (salt).
Xeomin
Xeomin has a similar onset (3-5 days) and duration (3-4 months) as Botox, but it’s formulated without accessory proteins. Xeomin contains incobotulinumtoxinA (a purified botulinum toxin type A), albumin, and sucrose (sugar).
Jeuveau
Jeuveau results are usually visible between 3-5 days and lasts between 3-4 months. It’s formulated with PrabotulinumtoxinA-xvfs (a purified botulinum toxin type A), albumin, and sodium chloride (salt).
Each of these neuromodulators is FDA-approved, and differences are minimal—talk to one of our expert injectors if you need help finding the best wrinkle injection for you!
What is the difference between Dysport and fillers?
Dysport relaxes muscles to reduce wrinkles caused by movement, while dermal fillers like Juvéderm or Restylane add volume to areas with static lines (lines that appear without moving your face) or volume loss.
Are there any restrictions after getting Dysport?
Dysport has a similar safety profile to Botox and other FDA-approved neuromodulators. Common side effects are generally mild and may include:
- Pain at the injection site
- Redness and swelling
- Headache
- Blurry vision
- Temporary bruising
- Drooping eyelids (ptosis)
Rare side effects such as difficulty swallowing, speaking, or breathing can occur, however, an experienced injector will understand how to further limit these already uncommon side effects.
