Aligning your physical appearance with your gender identity is deeply personal. Our Asheville medical spa team has worked hard to make Mountain Radiance a safe, welcoming space where you can feel comfortable being yourself—and this includes asking for the aesthetic treatment or outcome you want, not a cookie-cutter recommendation.
Here are some of the most commonly requested procedures that our skilled injectors and aestheticians use for gender affirmation.
1. Gender-Affirming Laser Hair Removal in Asheville
Unwanted facial and body hair is one of the most common sources of gender dysphoria. Our laser hair removal treatments offer permanent hair reduction that goes far beyond the daily maintenance of shaving or waxing.
How laser hair removal supports gender expression
For transfeminine and MTF patients: Laser hair removal permanently reduces facial hair including beard shadow, sideburns, and neck hair. Many clients report that eliminating facial hair significantly reduces dysphoria and makes daily life more comfortable. Smooth, hair-free skin is also easier to care for and provides a smooth canvas for makeup application. We can also treat chest hair, arm hair, leg hair, back hair, and any other body areas to achieve the appearance you desire.
For transmasculine and FTM patients: While facial hair growth is often a goal during transition, some transmasculine patients experience PCOS-related facial hair growth in patterns that don’t align with their identity. Laser hair removal can help manage unwanted facial or body hair when it creates dysphoria.
What to expect from gender-affirming laser hair removal
We use the Lumenis LightSheer laser with ChillTip Technology, which is safe and effective for all skin tones—an important consideration since many traditional lasers don’t work well on darker skin. Most patients need 6 or more sessions spaced 4-6 weeks apart. Each treatment targets hair follicles during their active growth phase, gradually reducing hair density and thickness throughout your treatment series.
The treatment is typically described as feeling like a rubber band gently snapping against your skin. Our cooling technology minimizes discomfort, and for sensitive areas, we can provide additional pain control measures.
Important: Hormones (particularly estrogen) can affect how pain is experienced and make some people more sensitive to laser treatments. You don’t need to be on hormone replacement therapy to begin laser hair removal treatments, but if you are, we are happy to work with you at any stage of your transition.

2. Dermal Fillers for Facial Feminization and Masculinization
Dermal fillers are among the most versatile gender-affirming treatments available for non-surgical facial feminization or masculinization. These injectable treatments use hyaluronic acid—a substance naturally found in the body—to add volume, reshape contours, and create more feminine or masculine facial features based on your specific goals.
Facial feminization with dermal fillers
For transfeminine and MTF patients, strategic filler placement can create softer, more traditionally feminine facial features. We can enhance and lift the cheekbones, add fullness to the lips, round out the temples, and create the appearance of a more heart-shaped or oval face. Fillers can also add volume beneath the eyes to reduce hollowing and refine the chin for a more delicate profile.
Facial masculinization with dermal fillers
For transmasculine and FTM patients seeking a stronger, more angular appearance, dermal fillers can enhance the jawline for a more defined, chiseled look or add projection to the chin.
Treatment details
During your consultation, we’ll discuss your aesthetic goals in detail and create a personalized treatment plan. We work with both Juvéderm and Restylane fillers, including Volbella or Kysse for subtle lip enhancement, Vollure or Contour for moderate volume and contouring, and Ultra or Lyft for more dramatic structural changes. Each product is formulated for different areas and effects.
Results are visible immediately, though final results develop over about two weeks as any swelling subsides. Depending on the product and treatment area, results typically last 9-24 months. Most filler treatments take 30-60 minutes, and you can return to your normal activities right away.
3. Botox for Gender-Affirming Facial Contouring
While Botox is widely known for smoothing wrinkles and fine lines, it’s also a powerful tool for subtle facial reshaping that supports gender-affirming goals. By strategically relaxing specific facial muscles, Botox can alter face shape and create more feminine or masculine features.
Facial feminization with Botox
For transfeminine and MTF patients, Botox can soften a square jawline by relaxing the masseter muscles (the large chewing muscles), creating a slimmer, more oval or heart-shaped face over time. We can also use Botox to lift the brows into a more feminine arch, soften forehead lines, and create an overall softer, more delicate facial appearance. Some patients also benefit from Botox in the upper lip to create a subtle “lip flip” that makes the lips appear fuller without filler.
Facial masculinization with Botox
For transmasculine and FTM patients, Botox can lower the brows slightly for a more masculine, straighter brow position. While Botox has fewer masculinizing applications than feminizing ones, it is sometimes combined with dermal fillers or other treatments.
What to expect
Botox treatments are quick—typically 10-15 minutes—and involve a series of small injections using a very fine needle. Results develop gradually over 3-7 days and reach full effect around two weeks. Results typically last 3-4 months, and many patients schedule regular maintenance treatments to preserve their results. We also offer Dysport, another Botox-type injectable, which offers similar results.

4. Kybella for Jawline Definition
Kybella is an FDA-approved injectable treatment that permanently destroys fat cells under the chin, creating a more defined, contoured jawline. For patients seeking a more chiseled, angular profile, Kybella can be transformative.
How Kybella supports gender affirmation
A well-defined jawline is often associated with masculine facial features, making Kybella particularly popular among transmasculine and FTM patients working toward a more angular, chiseled profile. However, this treatment benefits anyone—regardless of gender—looking to eliminate submental fullness (double chin) that obscures their natural jawline and prevents them from achieving their desired facial contour.
Treatment details
Kybella contains deoxycholic acid, a naturally occurring molecule in the body that breaks down and absorbs dietary fat. When injected into the submental area, it permanently destroys fat cells. Most patients need 2-4 treatment sessions spaced about 6 weeks apart for optimal results. Once those fat cells are destroyed, they’re gone permanently—the results are lasting.
Plan for some downtime after Kybella treatments. Swelling is common and can be significant, especially after the first treatment. Most patients need a few days away from social situations while the swelling subsides. Final results develop over 6-8 weeks as your body processes and eliminates the destroyed fat cells.

5. Sculptra for Facial Structure and Volume
Sculptra is a unique collagen-stimulating injectable that works differently from traditional dermal fillers. Rather than providing immediate volume, Sculptra stimulates your body’s own collagen production to gradually restore facial volume and create subtle structural changes over several months.
Gender-affirming applications of Sculptra
For facial feminization: Sculptra can restore volume in the cheeks, temples, and mid-face that contributes to a more youthful, feminine appearance. It’s particularly effective for creating smooth, full, rounded cheeks and addressing hollowing in the temples or under the eyes that can make the face appear more angular or gaunt. The gradual collagen production creates natural-looking fullness that doesn’t appear sudden or overdone.
For facial masculinization: Strategic Sculptra placement can enhance the jawline, build chin projection, and create more defined, angular facial contours. While it works more slowly than traditional fillers, the collagen-building process creates structure that looks and feels completely natural.
What makes Sculptra different
Unlike traditional dermal fillers that provide immediate volume, Sculptra works gradually over several months. The poly-L-lactic acid in Sculptra stimulates your body to produce new collagen, so results develop naturally and subtly. This gradual transformation means changes won’t appear sudden or dramatic.
Most patients need 2-3 treatment sessions spaced about 4-6 weeks apart. Full results develop over 3-6 months and can last two years or more, making Sculptra one of the longest-lasting non-surgical facial contouring options available.
