What is platysmal banding?
Platysmal banding refers to the vertical bands or cords that form when the platysma muscle (a thin sheet of muscle that spans the front of your neck) begins to lose elasticity and strength. Over time, repeated muscle movement and volume loss in the lower face make the bands more visible, especially when talking, swallowing, or straining the neck.
How does Botox treat platysmal bands?
We precisely inject Botox or Dysport along the length of the visible bands to relax the platysmal muscle and soften the muscle contractions that cause the cords to appear. What kind of results can I expect?
You can expect your neck to appear smoother and more refined after treatment. Your jawline may also appear subtly more defined. The vertical bands will relax and become less prominent within 5-10 days of your injections, with full results apparent after 2 weeks. While the transformation is not as dramatic as surgery, it’s a natural-looking enhancement that helps you look refreshed without obvious signs of “having work done.”
Like facial Botox and Dysport treatments, results gradually wear off after about 3-4 months. We recommend touch-up treatments to maintain your results.
