Upneeq in Asheville, NC

Have you noticed a droopy, tired look to your eyes? Are you looking for a non-surgical option to refresh your appearance? Upneeq® is the first and only FDA-approved non-surgical treatment to widen your eyes and reduce redness.

What is Upneeq?

Upneeq is a once-daily prescription eye drop that temporarily widens the eyes by contracting the levator muscle in the upper eyelid, which lifts the eyelid and reduces redness.

How does Upneeq work?

The active ingredient in Upneeq is a vasoconstrictor called oxymetazoline hydrochloride that causes the upper eyelid muscle (Mueller muscle) to contract, raising the eyelid about 1 mm. It also constricts blood vessels in the eye to create a brighter, more alert appearance. Upneeq can give you a clearer, refreshed look with just one drop per day.

What is Upneeq used for?

Upneeq treats droopy, low-lying eyelids, also known as blepharoptosis, and can provide a temporary solution for non-surgical eye rejuvenation. Upneeq is also effective for treating Botox-induced eyelid ptosis, a temporary and uncommon side effect experienced by a small percentage (about 3%) of Botox patients.

How does Upneeq compare to other treatments?

Unlike surgical eye rejuvenation, Upneeq is non-invasive and requires no downtime. Rejuvenating your eyes is even easier and more convenient than injectable options, as you can easily administer Upneeq yourself at home.

Upneeq is also unique in that its noticeable results are temporary, making it an ideal option if you are considering more permanent eye rejuvenation and want to get a preview of what your results may be.

Does Upneeq help hooded eyes?

Upneeq can temporarily widen your eyes; however, it cannot address extra skin on your eyelids.

Am I a good candidate for Upneeq?

Upneeq is generally safe for most patients in good health and would like a temporary “eye lift” to have a more open and alert appearance to their eyes and less redness.

Who should not use Upneeq eye drops?

If you are pregnant or breastfeeding, have a history of eye problems, cardiovascular disease, hypertension, hypotension, narrow-angle glaucoma, or are taking certain medications, we recommend consulting your doctor before using Upneeq.

We will discuss your medical history to be sure Uqneeq can safely achieve your aesthetic goals at your complimentary consultation!

How do I use Upneeq eye drops?

Upneeq is prescribed in single-use containers, with one dose per container for each eye. You’ll place one drop of Upneeq into each eye once a day—each prescription has a 30-day supply.

Follow these easy steps to apply Upneeq eye drops:

  • Wash your hands thoroughly before using Upneeq.
  • Gently shake the container and remove the cap. Do not touch the tip of the container to avoid contamination.
  • Tilt your head back slightly and look up. Hold the container upside down and place the tip close to the eye without touching it. Apply gentle pressure to the container and let one drop fall into the eye.
  • Close your eye and gently press your finger to the inner corner of your eye for a few seconds to prevent the solution from draining out.
  • Repeat the process with the other eye, using a new single patient-use container. It is essential to discard each container after use to prevent contamination.

Avoid blinking or squeezing your eye immediately after using the eye drops, and do not touch your eye or eyelid with your fingers.

Can I use Upneeq if I wear contact lenses or use other eye drops?

Yes! You may use contact lenses or other eye drops (if approved by your provider) 15 minutes after applying Upneeq.

How long do Upneeq results last?

Upneeq typically can last up to six hours or longer for some patients.

What are the side effects of Upneeq?

Upneeq is FDA-approved medication and generally well-tolerated. The most common side effects of the drug are eye irritation, inflammation, dryness, conjunctival hyperemia, punctate keratitis, headache, blurred vision, and eye pain at the application site in clinical trials. These side effects occurred in only 1-5% of patients and were usually mild to moderate and resolved within a few minutes to hours after use.

More serious potential side effects, such as changes in vision, increased blood pressure, or heart problems, can occur in very rare cases.
